MBDA Federal Procurement Center Team

Liyah Washington is working at the U.S. Commerce Department/Minority Business Development Agency’s Federal Procurement Center, as a dedicated Compliance and Data Specialist.  Liyah has extensive experience building partnerships with a demonstrated history of working in the legal services and finance industries, with special experience in Nonprofit Organizations, Economic Research, Client Services, Human Resources and Event Management.

She has a B.A. in Diplomacy & World Affairs: Economics & International Law, with a minor in Global Public Health from Occidental College.  A native of Newark, New Jersey, she was a Wight Foundation Scholar who graduated from the Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT.  She worked in different grassroots organizations in Los Angeles, including the Urban Environmental Policy Institute where she helped to empower homeowners facing foreclosure, and the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE) focused on supporting homeless youth in Hollywood.

Based on that work, she published research reports at the School for International Training on ‘How to Empower Orphaned and Vulnerable Children in Eastern and Western Cape, South Africa’.  More recently, she worked as an executive recruiter for attorney positions in top Fortune 100-500 companies.  And as a Customer Experience Coordinator at the TD Bank in Washington, DC, Liyah has been using her expertise in digital technology to enhance customers’ banking experience.  Her interests include poetry, travelling, photography, meditation, and “exploring new cities to observe what makes them go from the ground up”.
